(Text&Photos:Qiao Linchuan)On October 19, the inaugural launch of the journal Advanced Materials Joining (English) and the First International Youth Symposium on Advanced Materials Joining were held at Zhengzhou Research Institute of Harbin Insititute of Technology. On October 18, Wei An, Member of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee, met with academicians and experts attending the conference.
Yu Zhou, editor-in-chief of the journal and Harbin Insititute of Technology Academician, Jianqiu Zhuang, Deputy secretary of the Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, Professor Jian Liu, Member of the Standing Committee of Harbin Insititute of Technology Party Committee and Vice-president, Xian Li, Publishing Director of Springer Nature China, relevant experts, scholars as well as provincial, municipal and university leaders jointly witnessed the inauguration of the journal .
Conference Site
In the address, Academician Yu Zhou stated that Advanced Materials Joining (English) would orient itself towards national strategic needs, focus on key technologies such as welding interface science and intelligent welding, use academic innovation to support the upgrading and improvement of fields like aerospace and integrated circuits. He noted that the journal would benchmark against international top standards, deepen interdisciplinary and cross-border academic exchanges, pool expert resources, innovative achievements, and industrial needs, and build a bridge for cooperation between Chinese and foreign scholars.
Yu Zhou's Address
Professor Jian Liu stated that Harbin Insititute of Technology had long been deeply engaged in the field of materials science and engineering, having accumulated a solid foundation in advanced materials joining technology research. He noted that the inauguration of Advanced Materials Joining (English) was a significant step for the university to leverage its disciplinary advantages and serve global academic development. He expressed the hope that the journal would serve as a bridge to gather global innovative wisdom, promote the development of advanced materials joining technology, and provide support for industrial upgrading and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.
Jian Liu's Address
A representative from the Chinese Welding Society stated that advanced materials joining technology was a key technology in the fields of new materials and equipment manufacturing, and was crucial for the reliability and performance of high-end equipment. The representative noted that the inauguration of Advanced Materials Joining (English) provided a new vehicle for integrating international academic resources, building high-end exchange platforms, and promoting solutions to key technical challenges in the field. The Society would leverage its international academic cooperation network to support the journal's development.
Professor Peter Mayr from the Technical University of Munich and Xian Li respectively delivered speeches, extending invitations to global experts and scholars, and hope that talents from all sectors will jointly participate in the journal's development and work together to build an internationally influential academic community.

Professor Sanbao Lin from Harbin Insititute of Technology, the journal's Executive Editor, introduced the journal's founding philosophy, development path, and future vision. The conference was moderated by Professor Tiesong Lin, Executive Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Welding & Joining of Materials and Structures. The conference also issued appointment letters to editorial board members, including the Editor-in-Chief, Co-Editors-in-Chief, and Special Advisory Committee members.
Following the conference, the journal's editorial board meeting and the First International Youth Symposium on Advanced Materials Joining were held. Professor Peter Mayr, Professor Ding Jun from the National University of Singapore, Professor Mingxin Huang from the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Yanhong Tian from Harbin Insititute of Technology delivered plenary speeches, with 5 other scholars presenting thematic reports. Participants engaged in discussions around the theme Precision Joining, Intelligent Integration, exchanging the latest research findings and development trends in the field of advanced materials joining.
Journal Editorial Board Meeting
The Advanced Materials Joining (English) was selected for the High-Start New Journal of the Excellence Action Plan for China's STM Journals Phase II Project” in 2024. The journal is sponsored by Harbin Insititute of Technology, co-organized by the Zhengzhou Research Institute of Harbin Insititute of Technology, and published in partnership with Springer Nature. It focuses on frontier areas and key core technologies such as welding and joining interface science, intelligent welding, additive manufacturing, and electronic packaging, aiming to build a high-level academic platform with international influence in the field of materials joining.
Representatives from the Harbin Insititute of Technology Journal Editorial Department, the State Key Laboratory of Precision Welding & Joining of Materials and Structures, and faculty and students from the Zhengzhou Research Institute of Harbin Insititute of Technology attended the conference.
